Absolute Beginners
Is this course for you?
You've got all the bits out of the box and finally got them properly connected. You've read through all the manuals but ended up more confused than when you started. Try as you might you still can't tell your hard from your floppy.
You're not sure where to go from here. Your neighbour's 12-year old whizz-kid came in and gave your a complete run down in two minutes flat; the only result was your confidence took a severe blow and you learnt nothing. Phew!
If this sounds familiar then the Absolute Beginners is just the course for you.
Don't worry. Even the whiz-kids have been there, done that and got several T-shirts. Of course, none of them would ever admit it now but it's true nevertheless.
We all need a helping hand to get us going whatever new venture we tackle. We all need guidance to use our computers and their programs just as we would if we were going to drive a bus. You could try either without help but a few lessons would be sure to prevent a lot of accidents in both cases.
What qualifications/equipment do you need?
A little time, lots of interest and good sense of fun. Included in the course are all study materials, software and even all the computer equipment if you can come to our Palma centre.
What will you gain?
A great deal - including bags of confidence and a very comfortable launch into the fascinating and powerful world of information technology. We keep our promise ... making IT easy!
What will you study?
Switching on and off safely plus a (very) simple introduction to what each bit does and how they all work together. You'll learn good habits to prevent loss of stored work (back-up and anti-virus). European Computer Driving Licence (Intro & Full)
Is this course for you?
The European Computer Driving Licence is available to everyone. Your objectives might be personal, professional, or competitive. Or maybe for you it's just a matter of self-improvement.
The important thing, though, is that an ECDL licence is awarded to you, in recognition of your knowledge of standard business computer applications. It serves as a passport to employment; it opens an important door on the new world of information technology.
If you know next to nothing about computers at the moment, if you need to get an official qualification to give you that edge for a new (or better) job, especially where IT skills are important; if you need to do it the quickest yet most thorough way possible - then ECDL is the one for you.
What qualifications/equipment do you need?
No previous qualifications or equipment as included in the course are all study materials which are officially approved and licensed, all software and even all the computer equipment if you can come to our Palma centre.
But what is needed is a fair slice of time - this is a comprehensive, formal IT qualification - plus lots of interest and strong sense of purpose. The course itself is straight forward but requires study.
What will you gain?
The European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) is the world's leading end-user computer skills certification programme. It is internationally recognised as the global benchmark for end-user computer skills and is the leading certification to be adopted by governments, international organisations and corporations alike.
- Increased skills levels in essential IT and computer use
- Internationally recognised qualification (on passing tests at official centre)
- Improved job prospects/job mobility
- Passport to higher-level IT education
- Confidence and proven all-round abilities in basic IT using today's PCs and software
What will you study?
The ECDL is a test of practical skills and competencies and consists of seven separate modules covering computer theory and practice. Module 1 is a theoretical test of computing knowledge at a general level and Modules 2-7 are practical skills Tests, as follows:
- Concepts of Information Technology (IT)
- Using a Computer and Managing Files
- Word Processing
- Spreadsheets
- Database
- Presentation
- Information and Communication
It is not necessary that full ECDL tests are taken as the course itself provides a superb all-round knowledge for those not seeking a formal qualification.
How long does it take?
The 'intro' course is a cut-down version giving a short one hours tutored instruction on three of the modules. These are:
- Introduction to Computers and file organisation
- Word Processing
- A module of your choice (either Spreadsheets, eMail or the Internet)
For the full ECDL course each module usually around 4 hours over 2 weeks including one weekly tutored hour.
A full 7-unit course is recommended but certainly not mandatory. Each module test may be passed individually at an official test centre and separate competence entries are made in the student's skills book.
What can you do after the course:
The ECDL officially certifies that the holder is fully competent in the use of a personal computer and common computer applications and knows the essential concepts of IT. The ECDL Syllabus is unique in that it has been designed to be entirely vendor-independent.
This gives students the flexibility and freedom to acquire these core skills and confidently apply them in any software environment they may be required to use. Above all, you could probably get a good/better job where IT skills were important.
